Quick-start guide to experiencing Conceptual Speech Recognition
In order to experience Conceptual Speech Recognition, follow these simple steps.
Download the Conceptual Speech Engine installer from here.
The installer sets up an unrestricted 30-day demo version of CLUE and Conceptual Speech Commander. It includes one sample module (an Airline Response System), which allows a non-technical trial to get a quick feel of the full-extent of Conceptual Speech Recognition technology, documentation and all components required to create new conceptual speech recognition experiences for people who want to dig deeper into the technical aspect of Conceptual Speech Recognition.
Launch the Conceptual Speech Engine installer and follow the install instructions.
|
Install the Conceptual Speech Engine by following the simple instructions from the installer.
|
Launch the LumenVox installer.
From the Start Menu, under Programs and Conceptual Speech Technologies, select the Launch LumenVox Installer item.
The LumenVox speech recognition engine is a state-of-the-art speech recognition engine that was slightly adapted so that Conceptual Speech Commander can work with it. If you want to try Conceptual Speech Commander, you need to install it. If you only want to try CLUE (which processes text input), you do not need to install it. The Activation Code is SNPHHUAT. You will need to enter it at the installer's request.
Restart your computer.
Although LumenVox installer does not request it, a restart of your computer is indeed required.
Launch the Conceptual Speech Commander Console.
From the Start Menu, under Programs and Conceptual Speech Technologies, select the Console item.
The Console is an interactive interface that allows you to control and see the Conceptual Speech engine processing. You will see the following user-interface when you launch the Console.

Try a test case from the Airline Response System sample module.
An Airline System Response sample module is included in the install of Conceptual Speech Commander and CLUE. This module handles scheduling information request for an airport or an airline transporter. Callers can ask questions in their own words, the system calculates the resulting concept, and formulates a response accordingly.
- Select the Execute... item in the Test cases menu.

- The following dialog will be shown.

This dialog lets you run a single test case, all test cases, or allows for a wav file to be analyzed. Let's run the test case number one right now. That test case is a simple wav file that contains 8kHz, 16 bit, mono audio of an adult male person speaking "is flight six hundred delayed".
- Press the Submit button.
- After less than 15 seconds of calculations, you should see the following output in the Console.
Try another test case from the Airline Response System, but this time with audio output.
Enabling the audio output allows us to hear exactly what Conceptual Speech Commander hears. This is an interesting step towards appreciating the full potential of Conceptual Speech Recognition since we can observe the audio used for the Conceptual Speech Engine to get to the produced response. Let's process the test case number two and listen to the audio that Conceptual Speech Commander hears.
- Click on the "Speaker" icon on the toolbar of the Console.

- Repeat the steps enumarated in
, but this time choose the test case number 2 from the drop-list in the dialog.

- Before calculating the concept, the original audio used by the system will be reproduced through your computer speakers (this is what you will hear
- which is also what the system hears), and after the response has been generated, the SAPI TTS engine will reproduce the response so that you can also hear it (this is what you will hear ). The following output will also be generated in the Console.
Try another test case from the Airline Response System, but this time hear audio output and witness the key processes involved.
Conceptual Speech Recognition is using phonetic, syntactic and conceptual analysis processes to build a conceptual representation of a communication. Let's run the test case number three to see the results of each of these processes.
- Set the output level to "Phonetic, Syntactic and Conceptual Overview" from the drop-list in the toolbar of the Console.

- Repeat the steps enumarated in
, but this time choose the test case number 3 from the drop-list in the dialog.

- The system will respond to the inquiry
with the following: "Certainly. United Airlines flight 600 already arrived in dallas 20 minutes ago." But it also produced significantly more output. We will examine the nature and content of this output.
- The first section refers to the phonetic analysis results. As we can see in the output produced, based on phonetic analysis solely, 814 potential words were recognized. That large number is a result of the ambiguity of the phonetic analysis process. But that is not a limitation for Conceptual Speech Recognition systems since later processes are used to disambiguate such result.
The left column (TIME START) holds the starting times for each potential word detected in the audio. In the right column (POSSIBLE SPOKEN WORDS), spellings and pronunciations with accoustic scores are listed for each potential words detected in the audio.
To help referring to this output, the actual spoken words are in red below.

- Following the phonetic analysis output is the syntactic analysis output. There are only a limited amount of possible spoken words sequence that can form a syntactically valid sentence. The task of the syntactic analysis process is to identify such sequences of possible spoken words.

- Finally, the conceptual analysis process analyzes each of the sequences produced by the syntactic analysis process until it finds a pure conceptual representation of the communication.

{OUTPUT
[CONTENT:Certainly. United Airlines flight 600 already arrived in dallas 20 minutes ago.]}
The conceptual representation of the inquiry "Could you please tell me how many minutes before flight six hundred will arrive in Dallas" can be interpreted in the following way:
"The communication is an interogation about a possibility that a human operator could process a communication involving an order from the speaker that is asking about the time left for the arrival of a physical object of class vehicle, type airplane operated by United Airlines and of number 600. The assumption about the time of the event (arrival of flight 600) is in the future from the present time which is Sat Sep 04 20:37:48 2004. As an extra operation to execute, verify that the physical object of class vehicle, type airplane operated by United Airlines and of number 600 is arriving in a city called 'Dallas' which is known to have one airport (code DFW). The communication was processed at time Sat Sep 04 20:37:48 2004."
- Following are the details of how much time the system spent in each step of the process. Once again, the key elements are in red.
We can point to some key elements in that part of the output, we have phonetic analysis that required 3 seconds of CPU time to analyze the audio and produce the list of possible spoken words. Next, the syntactic analysis process required 1.1 seconds to isolate the subset of possible words sequences that can form syntactically valid sequences of words. The conceptual analysis of these syntactically valid sequences of words required 1.5 seconds of CPU time. All these processes generated a correct response of the inquiry in less than 5.6 seconds.
